Ways to Prepare Your Furnace for Winter Now
The summer is in the rearview and fall is in full swing, but when it comes to your HVAC system, don’t wait until winter to get it ready. This time of year, temperatures in Seneca Gardens, Kentucky start to drop and you don’t want your furnace to go out on you when you need it most. To keep your furnace running strong throughout the winter, follow these easy furnace preparation tips.
Change the Air Filters
Chances are you haven’t used your furnace for six months or longer. Although the unit has stayed dormant during that time, it doesn’t mean your air filters are clean. Air still runs through the furnace filter when it’s off. If you aren’t used to prepping your furnace for hibernation, it probably still has the same filter as last year. If that’s the case, replace the old filter with a new one. Repeat this process every 30 to 90 days as dictated by usage.
Schedule a Tuneup
Perhaps the best thing you can do for your furnace is schedule a tuneup. When you schedule an appointment, our technician will run through a 20-point inspection to ensure that everything’s running just like it should. The result is a furnace that blows out hot air and runs as well as it did the day you bought it.
Flip On the Thermostat
The mild autumn temperatures in Kentucky usually mean you can open the windows and avoid using your HVAC system. However, you should always switch the heat on to make sure it works. Loose electrical connections, the furnace fan, blower, or the fuel source can all lead to malfunctions. It’s better to know about it in October than in January.
